Unmarked NYPD car incident, Aug 8, 2023, Lower East Side: Bicyclist confronts car, altercation escalates, bystander intervention and eventually more officers arrived…
“This is the NYPD that emerged from an unmarked car on August 8th, 2023 at approximately 2 p.m. on the intersection of Ludlow and Stanton streets in the Lower East Side.
I was walking down Ludlow from Stanton Street towards Rivington.
I heard some yelling coming from just down the block, a bicyclist coming down Rivington on a CitiBike was yelling at a car that had just cut him off before the intersection. The bicyclist and the car crossed the intersection still in conflict, the bicyclist yelling into the window of the car.
That’s when the car fully cut him off and immediately 2 offices ran out of the car. The larger officer who was driving the car threw the bicyclist aggressively off his bike and quickly pinned him against the wall of a shop.
The other smaller office came immediately too and as the big officer pinned the bicyclist against the wall choking him with his arm the smaller officer held him down as much as he could.
Eventually, more officers arrived, more pedestrians arrived and there were citizens that tried to intervene on the bicyclists’ behalf and it evolved into a screaming and shoving match between the backup police and other bystanders.
This all devolved quickly and Eventually, the 2 initiating officers got the bicyclist in cuffs and into their car, and then all the police left as quickly as possible.
No citation/court date”
