Concerns Regarding the National Soldiers’ Home Development
My name is Sennett Devermont, Vice Commander of AGIF ECRF. I have reviewed evidence regarding the National Soldiers’ Home. I have serious questions regarding recent actions by Los Angeles County officials and California legislators. These questions are central to understanding what is really behind the sale of the West region’s land.
I am concerned about decisions that appear to allocate veteran land for private use. This seems to happen rather than directly supporting the homeless veterans population in Los Angeles. Notably, Los Angeles is considered the nation’s capital for veteran homelessness.
Key Questions and Concerns:
- Los Angeles County Land Allocation: Why is Jim Zenner, Chairman of the Los Angeles County Military and Veterans Affairs Veterans Advisory Commission, reportedly okaying a plan for the County? The plan is to seize another 3.5 acres of the National Soldiers’ Home property. This land is allegedly being given to private developers for uses that may not even serve homeless veterans. What might be the forces behind this sale?
- Role of Ms. Amy Perkins: Why did Ms. Amy Perkins, a Deputy for the LA County Board of Supervisors and a former head of LAHSA, allegedly order Mr. Zenner to support this plan? Furthermore, why did Ms. Perkins not disclose her recent appointment? She is now a board member of the very commission Mr. Zenner chairs during a public meeting. Is she a veteran?
- California State Legislation: Why did the California State Senate recently pass a bill allowing the state to sell all California armories for cash to anyone? This occurred even though the state may not legally own all of those properties. Details behind the massive sale of the West Coast properties remain questionable.
