Mark McNamara was a police officer for San Jose Police Department up until a few days ago. An Internal Affairs investigation found disturbing text messages that were racist in nature. He was with the police department for 6 years.
The other employee who was part of the text messages has not been named, but was put on administrative leave pending an investigation.
Chief of Police Anthony Maya has stated, “If any employee’s racial bias rears its ugly head, rest assured that I will take immediate action to ensure they and not part of this organization.”
The texts were relating to a shooting in March of 2022 that Mark McNamara was involved in. He shot K’aun Green after Green had broken up a fight and prevented a shooting at a taqueria. Fortunately Green survived his injuries, but he was shot four times. One in the abdomen, one in the leg, and twice in the arm.
Green said that he heard someone yell to drop the gun, but gave him no time to see what was going on before he was shot at.
Video evidence shows that there were roughly four seconds between Green opening the door and then McNamara firing his gun. Green is currently in the midst of a federal lawsuit against the police department because of the incident
