In a shocking case of police brutality, Tyler Canaris, a 30-year-old man from Dallas, Georgia, was brutally beaten by Paulding County Sheriff’s Deputy McMaster. On March 4th, 2022, Canaris was on his way to work when Deputy McMaster suddenly pulled up, turned on his emergency lights, and attacked him without provocation. The assault, reportedly because Canaris was wearing a backpack, left him with a broken collarbone and a fractured skull.
Following the incident, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office placed Deputy McMaster on desk duty while the Georgia Bureau of Investigation began an inquiry. Canaris’s attorneys held a news conference on February 20th, revealing that he had suffered a ruptured eardrum, concussion, and traumatic brain injury.
“Tyler had to be admitted to the hospital for surgery and saw numerous specialists”, said criminal attorney Torris Butterfield. The incident has left him with $75,000 in medical bills.
Officials also stated that Canaris was charged with obstruction nine months after the incident. This case highlights the severe consequences of police misconduct and underscores the need for accountability within law enforcement.
